Session Victim

Session Victim When you hear the name Session Victim you know it's going to be dope. Underground duo, Matthias and Hauke, have been putting out understated deep house bliss for some time and their latest offering 'low key, low pressure' - a 10 track album of trip hop, hip hop jazziness - continues with the quality run. This album would be perfect for an after-hours affair and for this reason we ask Session Victim to take us back to theirs after the club. The mood is chill, the drinks are flowing, the shoes are off. This is the playlist...

Inspirations

Rhythm & Sound /w Paul St. Hilaire - Jah Rule

As trippy as it gets in the best possible sense of the word. The synth chord with that dirty reverb is one of the best I have ever heard.

Redman - Tonight's Da Night

A firm Session Victim favourite, Redman's witty, funny, elaborate flow always feels good. Tonight's Tha Night with its ultra smooth Isaac Hayes Break is a standout in a standout rappers body of work.

Dday One - At The Village Gate

Dday One and his Content Label are a prime example when it comes to quality over quantity beat making. This particular piece here gives me goosebumps every time I put it on.

Erykah Badu & Madlib - The Healer

Both of these outstanding artists at the top of their game. Sounds just as great now as it did when I listened to it for the first time.

Dire Straits - Six Blade Knife

From their self-titled debut album, this one is my clear DS favourite. The groove, the sound, the whole low-key atmosphere - just as good as it gets.

RJD2 : Someone’s Second Kiss

When RJD2’s Debut album -Deadringer” dropped in 2001, it rarely left my turntable. “Someone’s Second Kiss” is from the follow up “Since We Last Spoke” and always triggers my imagination in the very best way.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - You Know You Know

Absolute and utter bliss. Billy Cobham’s drums on this one have to be one of the most beautiful things ever recorded, but it’s the whole band and how they come together that really takes my breath away.

Love Inc. - Life’s A Gas

This is one of these loops that can go on for hours and without ever getting on my nerves. Tune in, drop out and don’t stop. Ever.

Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan

What is there to say really? If you don’t know this tune yet, I envy you for being able to listen to it for the first time. Pretty close to perfection in my opinion.
