"Aventura Espacial" by Burnier and Cartier from 1974

The arrangement is picture perfect. Talk about evocative. Soundscape just stretches on and on, although it's a pretty short song. This is songwriting from a different time and place. I see the album is easily available out there on the blogoshere, if you don't have it. totd

"Dreamer" by B.B. and Q. Band from 12

Curtis Hairston in the starring role, and Shep Pettibone is on the c'c'c'c'c'ca' case. I find his touch a little excessive at times but this is midas. So many bits in this to get hung up on.

"Dedicated To the One I Love" by Bill Withers from 'Bout Love

The beat on this is such serious business. Has to be James Gadson, I thought. Turns out its Russ Kunkel (also known as Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs). Every little part of this is right on the money, the piano, the flute at 2.50, the doped backing vocal, the groove, the horns. But it's always the whistling at the end that hits hardest and has me thinking: killer. And do check the recent doc Still Bill if you get the chance. It has some beautiful moments, quite moving, and Bill has to be one of the kindest buds on the planet.

"Strangers" by Deniece Wiliams from My Melody

So confused over that Riia radar thing. Ok to post a Barbara Streisand track but this gets flagged, which is an OOP cd. It's tempting to post this on Valentines day but I guess I'm just too much of a romantic for that. I got my mate with If You Don't Believe (the closer of This Niecy) and then he hit back, the next listening session, with this. Production is the fullest. She is out the door, possibly with the guitar player.

"Meditation III Poente" by Suba (Mitar Subotic), Goran Vejvoda from Dreambird

Some music beckons you, like an open door into another world. I find it very easy to get lost in this soundscape. Ambient but it has a narrative pull, too. As though John Barry was drawn into a strange ritual experience with an Amazonian tribe. This is the sound of the forest under the stars.

"The Sea" by Final Fantasy from Young Canadian Mothers (7")

Ever had one of those days when you keep changing your mind about which track to choose? After seeing Sorcerer's post I thought ah, let's just follow that. Kind of surprised Owen Pallet hasn't made a totd yet. For sure, his vocal style won't be for some. Below is his take on Mariah's Fantasy, which was my introduction to him. His studio material differs considerably to his live performances so I felt it was worthwhile to complement the clip with The Sea.
