"All" by Various Artists from Voodoo Funk

Sometimes get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of crap that's floating around out there on blogs nowadays, but there are a few that I find myself returning to religiously for their originality and quality. Voodoo Funk is one of them - amazing tales of homeboy's excursions around Africa digging for records, with plenty of stories, photos, cover art, and mixes. So rad and so worth your time.

"All" by Jorge Ben from A Tábua de Esmeralda

Nicest first, worst! Dropped some cash on this record about 5 minutes after hearing Worst Chim's post from yesterday. Wasn't familiar with this Ben album and it's easily now my favorite.

"Samba Triste" by Baden Powell from Samba Triste

Back after an extended hiatus over here; time for some haze. Baden just tearing it up with a triste trio.

"Promise Of A Fisherman" by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 from Primal Roots

So happy to finally get my hands on this dog after checking the bins for it for years, since I was living in Santa Cruz. Not a rare one but tuff to find. Serge stripping it down to the bare minimum. Get it over here on CD or scour the bins for about 8 years.

"Irene" by Vinicius de Moraes from Le Bresil de Vinicius de Moraes

Man, went to an olde secret spot this weekend and it came thru. Came up with a few gems that I've wanted for a long time, including Sergio Mendes "Primal Roots," OPA "Goldenwings," some Azar Lawrence, some Studio One LPs, and this dog. Vinicius coming thru with mostly covers and nailing it on this one of Caetano Veloso's "Irene," mellowing it out and hazing it up.

"Falcon Love Call (Armazém Nº 2)" by Azymuth from Águia Não Come Mosca

Man iTunes store coming so correct with the early Azymuth discography over there. This one super hard to find; easily in the same area as that one. Slinky hazy nice for days.

"Upa Neguinho" by Jackson-Conti from Yesterday's Universe

Getting way into this latest Yesterday's New Quintet offering and looking forward to hearing more of these collabs between Madlib and Mamão, the drummer from Azymuth. Love how this dude just brings things full circle. Baked YNQ textures with some ill samba drumming.

"You're Gonna Need Me" by Dionne Warwick from Just Being Myself

Love's post and the chatter yesterday about this track made me revisit it. Deepest cut.

"All" by L. Bros. from L. Bros. Vs. The Herculoids 1978 at Bronx River Centre

Man, just loving the Soulman's blog; so much amazing stuff on there. Have been listening to his mix cds for a few years, but this stuff is just retarded. Posting super -obscuro recordings of Bronx River Centre jams with cats rocking doubles of Barrabas pretty much makes me feel OK. Keep it coming, phil.
