"Turbulence" by Arab Strap
from The Red Thread
Its nice to listen to falling asleep or on headphones while at studio.
Sometimes, you don't hear everything until its inside your head. Sometimes you just dont hear everything.
This track makes me blue.
We could have anyone we want. We could go back to school.
"Lord Can You Hear Me?" by Spiritualized
from Let it come down
The intricate nature of the whole album makes headphones fabulous because they switch between the right and left. I love this album.
Its gospel, its sacrelig, its fabulous
"Since I left you" by The Avalanches
from Since I Left You
I Love the Avalanches. When I hear their mixes I think, damn, this is taking the neat aspects of Matmos and making me really really happy.
And I have picked out a few of the soundbites. If you have a chance, listen to this album and think about the pop culture bites.
Rock.
"I've Just seen a face" by The Beatles
from Help
I only own this song on vinyl. Its sratchy and old. Its sleeve is broken and dirty with the previous owner's name scrawled on it. I think its part of the charm. The song is catchy and quick.
Part of the allure is also that this is the first album I ever owned. My mom gave me the tape for my sixth birthday. I remeber sitting in front of the post office in the grass singing it after listening to it on headphones.
I remember.
Music is so about what it makes you recall and who you listen to it with. Because its on vinyl (and I've broken three players...) I can only listen to it at my parents' house. Next weekend.
"Dirty Dream #2" by Belle and Sebastian
from The Boy with the Arab Strap
The upbeat sounds of the entire record put me back into the good mood I'd lost for a while.
You start tapping your foot the second it starts, then Stuart's voice comes in and says "follow my feet" thats your key to start to move, in abstract ways that make little sense to others....
Smiles are brought back. I feel better after a long day and night.
You are dreaming/you are sleeping/you are stuck to the sheets
Maybe its because Isobel's voice is so lovely. When I saw them in chicago, two little brunette twins danced and spoke her part. Gosh I wish I was them!!
"I'm Alive" by James Tommy and the Shondells
from
This song is so bright I just can't help but sing along. Time after time.
An old art teacher of mine gave me a mix tape with this song on it and as I drove home with the windows down, their blasting vocals trailed of in the fall wind. Its a thick nice sixties song.
I'm alive/I feel it bright and clear today/I'm alive.
"I wanna Thank You" by Sloan
from Navy Blues
The long lead up almost reminds me of styx, I miss my friends from home.
Goodbye, so long/see you sometimes....
Its about farewells. I've been at school for about three weeks and I'm ready to return to Chicago.
I love interludes, in life and in music
"Bongo Bongo" by Manu Chau
from
Its really good to bounce up and down to.
My best friend in the world, nicole, spent a summer kickin' it with this cat Sean. He smoked a lot but listened to wonderful music. He came over and we watched movies then painted furniture in her small apartment, ate humus and bounced in her livin' room.
He worked at an Ice Cream Shop.
"I love my dog" by Cat Stevens
from
Even the crackle of the vinyl makes this song better. When you're feeling a bit under because of how the best friend from way back when is treatin' you, just remember dogs don't need much.
Plus Cat is lovely!
"I stole a pretty bride" by hefner
from the fidelity wars
This is the kind of album that makes you sad, you can feel it. His voice isn't particularly lovely, yet you wish you could be the woman to break his heart.
Its better than really making them write you love letters. Darren is damn sexy in the cover art animation, no doubt!
