"Spaced Cowboy" by Sly and the Family Stone from There's A Riot Goin' On

Until I heard this song, I would have never paired incoherent mumbling and yodeling together. Now I know they are a match made in heaven.

"Last Christmas" by Wham! from Now That's What I Call Christmas

Wait a second...George Michael actually wrote this song!...It's not some hymn that was passed on thru the Christmas knitting circle and covered by Wham? Amazing.

 "My Suitor" by Berntholer from

This song pretty much puts everything else to shame...well...not everything...but it's hard to listen to another song right after. I'm not sure if Berntholer ever put out an official album. It's on the "Give Up" compilation that Jimmy Tamborello and Mark McNeill put together.

"I don't really love you anymore." by Magnetic Fields. from I.

This song drives me crazy...there are so many sounds and layers involved and they all sound so dynamic. In my imagination it was made in some surreal clock factory after hours...

"Sweet Caroline" by Bobby Womack from Understanding

I believe it was Mike Taylor that introduced me to this jem many a fortnight ago. I listened to it twice today over my morning coffee. My favorite lines are the ones he add-libs inbetween the verses...and talk about a rad album cover!

"Rio." by Duran Duran. from Rio.

I was innocently sitting outside of my work, enjoying the noise of the construction next door, when all of a sudden I saw Duran Duran walk by...it was sort of surreal. At first I was like, that dude looks like John Taylor...then...that looks like Nick Rhodes...they walked by one by one...complete with adoring fans following in suit. I have to admit I felt like a little school girl for a second. It brought me back to days when I used to stare at their poster on my friend's wall...back when they used to only play Duran Duran, Rod Stewart and The Buggles on MTV. Rio was always my favorite song and video of theirs...I wanted to be that painted girl, prancing around on that boat with them.

"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" by Journey from Frontiers

A friend of mine djed this song last night...it had been a while since I had heard it...what is it about Journey that keeps me coming back for more?

"Turtles Have Short Legs" by Can from Radio Waves

I listened to this song this morning...sandwiched inbetween the doobie bros. and Berlin. I love the lyrics and how they were sung...it seems like such a random song for Can to have recorded...it's like a song they made up while taking a break from Can practice. My soft spot for Jaki Leibezeit...and basically the whole band...grows every time I hear it.
