"Papa Was a Rolling Stone (live)" by Stevie Wonder from Soul! TV special

Saw this over at Matrixsynth ... Stevie the demigod just destroying it with his talkbox and trusty Arp. Riding highest off of "Talking Book," from a '72 PBS special.

"Treetrunk" by The Doors from Get Up And Dance 7"

Still think this band is shite, but I still find myself drawn to the trainwreck aspects of their canon (Soft Parade, those two post-Morrison cash-ins, etc). Had they stolen Ron Dante from the Archies and added judicious handclaps, however, this b-side would've been a passable bubblegum single.

"All" by Teddy Lasry from Patchwork Comp

"Morning Sun Rays" by Popol Vuh from Nosferatu OST

Quicking turning into a banner TOTD day at DC. Watched a Herzog minidoc recently, brought me back to this one. It might seem a bit listless at the moment - best to play it between 4-7AM when it becomes sublime.

"Van Lingle Mungo" by Dave Frishberg from Oklahoma Toad

This one finally got a vinyl reissue a few years back, but apparently has disappeared back into the ether ... still an oddball CTI all-time fave. As of 2006, only 6 of the players in the song were still on the planet. Great song backstory, regardless.

"Up In The Hills" by The High Llamas from Gideon Gaye

"Yodel 1" by Penguin Cafe Orchestra from Penguin Cafe Orchestra

iPod's on the blink with a crap LCD, which for a brief time, spat out some amazingly great 2600 end-of-game screensaving type whacked graphics, then died alltogether from a slow leaking crystal hole in the corner. So this AM I grabbed all the PCO records off the shelf and played one after the other while the sun shone through and I half-heartedly coded on the couch. Hadn't heard a lot of the original studio recordings in ages - this one's subtle and special. Simon Jeffes 10 yrs on R.I.P.

"Too Far Gone" by Todd Rundgren from Hermit Of Mink Hollow

Pretty much all Todd so far this AM. Somehow this might be the absolute gem of the canon - so much going on, and not a second wasted ready for repeated listening. LOVE this era Rundgren, plus album covers with photos taken off of TV's? Almost always classic.

"Big Blue Ball" by Big Blue Ball from Big Blue Ball

The rare track / artist / album trifecta. Wallinger & Gabriel & others collaboration from early 90's, just seeing the light of day now. Super easy head bobbin' ... keep it comin', Karl.
