"The EMI Song (Smile for Me)" by Alex Chilton from 1970

The best keys and vibe on this, and a Sorcerer fave it seems. Been slightly sad that every mention I've heard of his passing quotes the 'Mats song, and that's pretty much it ... Big Star et al still an underdog somehow, I guess. RIP.

"Rap Rap Rap" by The Living Legends from Legendary Music: Volume 1

G minor rarely sounded so good ... sure feels like a Ratatat sample.

"side two" by Duke Ellington from Masterpieces By Ellington

Was stuck in the deepest bowels of computer upgrade hell last night, so almost by autopilot, just kept bringing the needle back to the top on this. Such great mellow colors throughout .. a kissing cousin to some of my fave Claude Thornhill pieces, too. Sir Duke pulled a poor soul through the flames once again.

"Shadow Play" by Peter Lacey from Behind The Scenes

Short 'n' sweet instrumental, mind shifting very quickly into weekend mode as a result. Rest of the album's very Paul/Partridge/Pete Dello vibey. Sound clips here ...

"My Front Pages" by Matthews Southern Comfort from Live at Maidstone '70

Never knew Arlo Guthrie wrote an answer song to My Back Pages. The saturated film and lap dissolves aren't hurting, either.

"A Merry-Go-Round in the Park" by Lullatone from Songs That Spin in Circles

Video was posted over on robertogreco. Love the idea this might be considered a "single" in the Lullatone world. Endless spins in the background ...

"Still In The Game" by Steve Winwood from Talking Back To The Night

The thickest Prophet-5 around, but a charming lip sync slip at 2:43. Strange to think MTV would regularly rotate this in '82. Here's to never letting go ...

"Sonata V" by John Cage from Sonatas and Interludes (1946-1948)

Unfortunately, no idea who the performer is on the version that popped up on the ipod this AM, but this version, as sonically camera-tinny as it is, gets closest online. Love how both is sounds like an electric piano, and the bass line has this conga-like drive ...

"Where Does The Time Go?" by Todd Rundgren from Somewhere/Anywhere?

Super sunny mid-80's Todd demo. Now, put the top down and motor out to the country this weekend already ...

"Cause and Effect" by Prince from online

Sonically it's a bit "produced by Guitar Center," but any new & decent Purpleness is still welcomed with open arms.
