"Hey Girl Come and Get It" by Van McCoy from Disco Baby

The legendary, late great Van McCoy. Lately I've been getting into quite a few of the 700+ songs he wrote in his short life. This is from his disco era - a mellow instrumental synth jam from 1975. Hey Girl Come and Get It

"Dreaming a Dream" by Crown Heights Affair from ?

More '70s-style Northern Soul that long lost Pabst Chimney hooked me up with. Such a nice summertime jam here, with a Moog solo to boot! Dreaming a Dream

"Lend a Hand" by Bobby Hutton from Piece of the Action

A huge upbeat anthem from the early '70s by Bobby Hutton (not the Black Panther Bobby Hutton). If you've ever been curious about Northern Soul, this would be a good place to start. Lend a Hand

"One Wheel Race" by Tridact from ?

I was probably feeling a little too free when I cooked this one up. One Wheel Race

"King Tubby's Skank" by U-Roy from The Originator

Since the U-Roy track I posted yesterday was by mistake a messed up remix or something, here's a different song likely from the same session. I think this is officially a Bunny "Striker" Lee production, but King Tubby was his engineer at the time. "King Tubby on the controls, so you gotta be bold." U-Roy again toasting over the craziest Minimoog sounds with lots of filter and portamento. How about we play a major scale right in the middle of the song? Feel free!

 "I Originate" by U-Roy from ?

Okay, so apart from Lee Perry, apparently Bunny Lee's studio also had the Minimoog on all those those noodly early-'70s Mooged-out reggae tracks. I doubt they were sharing it. They're feeling so free rocking that thing all over this. A perfect combo with the Mighty U-Roy. I Originate

"Raw Beauty" by Losoul from none

I had this song on an old mix and always dug it. But I wasn't expecting it to be dropped right on my dome the other night during a DJ set in my neck of the woods (Southern Oregon). Huge jackin' house track here by Losoul. Raw Beauty

"Rainbow Flag" by Matmos from Supreme Balloon

I never got into these guys ever. Their work might've been too conceptual or experimental to me. It just never turned my crank, ya know? Anyway, this was unexpected - a more melodic modular synth jam a la Perrey and Kinglsey - nice cheery vibes. I dig it. Get it at Matador's blog.

"River Niger" by War from War Platinum Jazz

This song should've been called "LA River" instead. Funkiest bassline on this. Such the lesser known jam by these guys.
