Living In America by James Brown

Comment from Mosquito Chimney: every time i think about this song, i always remember this erasmus party i went to in spain... the kids were ushered from the bar to the dance floor and the dj came on. dude opens his set with this song, and a good 5 dozen drunk euros start dancing like it was standard procedure... so weird and so amazing, brought me to tears laughing |

Nymphe by Roland Kovac New Set

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: As far as I can tell, this is only on the Nymphe lp from '79. The last thing he did before that one was Gulliver in '74. Nymphe isn't on Gulliver or the other Selected Sound recordings from earlier. Sounds like there is a synth in this one and a clavinet. The earlier recordings were all organ. I just bought a copy of Gulliver so I'll check instrumentation when it arrives. Nice tune. I'll have to keep a weather eye out for this one . . . |

Love Pulse by Dr. Philter Banx

Comment from : No, sorry can't do that. My records are like family nowadays. Jello Biafra offered me $200.00 for the sealed copy 10 years ago. I wound up selling him my 'Bedlam With The Crazy People' album for $100.00...then I see that same album fetch nearly $1,000.00 on eBay awhile ago! LolI haven't sold any of my more collectible records since then, and really don't plan on it.I'd gladly send you the mp3 of the album. Not sure how this site works yet though. I see we're able to send messages here, but I don't think we can attach files, (maybe we can?). Can you message me privately and give me your email addy?Cheers. |

Colorado by Danny Holien

Comment from : I Have a fairly decent copy of this song which was converted a few years ago. It is in a .wav file and can be converted to a .mp3 fairly easy. Otherwise it usually plays well in WINAMP or WIN MEDIA PLAYER. I have a very good 33 vinyl album complete with everything inside. I am planning on making a copy of the album into CD for myself.I used to live a block away from tumbleweed Records back in the time while going to CU in Boulder. Thus I ended up with a sealed copy of the original record.email me if you would like a copy of COLORADO.Tedtedclake3@gmail.com |

Union City Blue by Blondie

Comment from : At the 20 yr. high school reunion the word was Paul Bouchard, convicted killer of Kim Shattuck, former E-Rab, was currently not locked up and had maybe killed someone else. My friend Tony laughed during breakfast with an understandable worry of Paul coming after him next. (Tony testified as a sort of character witness at the original trial, which lucky me got to see by skipping last hour from school and being the last gawker let into the courtroom. This was a Big Deal back then. Dude stabbed his girlfriend's stepmom like 55X and then went to work and, if I remember right, either confessed and/or bragged about it to other folk.) The real story is I guess he tried to strangle some woman back in March and got arrested again for his efforts. And it wasn't even near Rockford. Tony can probably rest easy. So, sorry for the sensationalism of my mention of "killers" when there in fact was only one. And Josher, does "October" refer to the month or the album? You know either would be suitable. |

Andy Pratt Rocks the Topsfield Fair

Comment from : Boston Rock Legend Andy Pratt rocked the Grandstand Stage for four shows at the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts last weekend, October 4th & 5th, backed up by a great band. Pianist, singer-songwriter Pratt played old and new compositions for a good hour and a half per show. The Stompers front-man and sideman extraordinaire Salvatore 'Sal' Baglio stood at Andy's side, singing and playing his electric guitar and Andy’s acoustic. Sal is always a pleasure to watch and hear. Second guitarist jazz-man Patrick Mottaz added soaringsolos and beautiful slide guitar fills, evoking Pratt’s old 1970's sidekick Mark Doyle - of Meatloaf, Hall & Oates, and many other bands . Hot current in-demand Boston drummer Dean Johnston of Club D’Elf and everything else - laid down a solid beat, and Brad Hallen covered the bass like the old pro he is. Vocalist Heather Fahey acquitted herself very well on Andy’s extensive and rather complex material after only two rehearsals with the band. The sound was good. Andy Pratt was fierce and funny as always! Let’s listen to one of Andy's fans, Mike from Salem, Mass: "When I saw Andy Pratt's name scrolling on the digital marquee in front of the Topsfield Fair entrance, I couldn't believe it! I didn't know he was playing today. I have all his albums! I missed his first show, so when I took my wife and kids home, I told my wife I HAVE to go back and see his second show tonight. Wow this is great to see him perform live!" Mike clutched one of his favorite Andy Pratt Cd's, 'Resolution'. He had brought it from home to be autographed. Mike was thrilled when his wish came true and he met Andy after the show. Another fan, an old soldier: "I love that song Avenging Annie! It was the first song I heard on the radio when I came back to the states in 1973, straight from the Vietnam War. It means a lot to me! It was Fantastic hearing it live!" The ever-prolific Andy did songs from several of his albums. From Resolution: TREASURE THAT CANARY,KAREN’S SONG and EVERYTHING FALLS INTO PLACE. From Not Just For Dancing and Age of Goodbye: MODERN POLICE. From Andy Pratt: DEER SONG and AVENGING ANNIE. From Shiver in the Night: ALL I WANT IS YOU. From Masters of War: MASTERS OF WAR and WHAT KIND OF WORLD IS THIS? From The Snake Charmer: IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, and CRUEL. From Songs For the Dying: BLAME IT ON THE MOON, and from I’m All Right: BUSINESS AS USUAL and BEETLE ON ITS BACK. BEETLE ON ITS BACK featured a new dance! During a solo break in the song, Andy announced to the audience, "Let me show you the Beetle Dance," then walked around his piano to the front of the stage, laid down on his back, extended his long gangly arms and legs straight up, then started waving them wildly and screaming - in fear and frustration. The fans roared with laughter. All four shows ended with Andy's Timeless Rock Classic AVENGING ANNIE.After more than five decades of playing music Andy Pratt showed that he can still put on a great show, and please his fans like no other. Please check out the Topsfield Fair photos at http://www.myspace.com/andyprattrocks (Click on "Pics" to see them.) Holy Man (Instrumental) by Dennis Wilson

Comment from JAZ Chimney: Sweetest tune! There's a surprising amount of "Jesus"-y content in those late recordings:"Turn the corner all alone? He meets you there. The one you love is everywhere, and you can follow. When summer burns and winter blows, the Holy Man. When you lose the innocence, he's standing there. Holy Man will meet you there." (The Holy Man)"I believe my Jesus is in my soul. Come on brother, let's rock and roll." (Friday Night)"I know a carpenter who had a dream, killed the man but you couldn't kill the dream. Who said it was easy? People gotta be free!" (Dreamer)"My Jesus, you open up my heart and make me laugh when I'm feelin' down. No more lonely nights." (You and I) |

Das Omen by Mysterious Art

(Brrrrr, Zonk)It's rather hard for me to translate this text to engl.. But I'm sure, Mitch does'nt have any problems with that. Else I'll try it tomorrow for You in my Free-Style manner. I think Google-Translate etc. would give same stupid results :-) |

Comment from Alien Chimney: If I got that tool, I would change a lot of the house stuff from the 90ies... :-)Talking about artifacts. When I moved this year I threw away some old 3.5" disks with Roland S-50 samples and some Atari Notator disks. They were by far the best act on the bill... I can still feel the noise if I concentrate a bit. Well jealous now... don't miss them if they play near you. |

Mountain In the Sky by Dave Brock

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: That's cool itunes has it. Wonder if there are any bonus tracks. There's also a 2 cd set with earthed to the Ground and Agents of Chaos together. That one has 5 bonus tracks on the first disc. Maybe have to go shopping for those . . . |

Wastelands of Sleep by Dave Brock and the Agents of Chaos

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: What's amazing to me is that this guy is STILL GOING. He was in several blues projects all through the 60s. Then he started Hawkwind in 1970 because he wanted to experiment with electronics. Hawkwind is still going strong with a yearly Hawkfest and Brock is the one who is keeping it real. I'll have to post my favorite Hawkwind track soon . . . |

A Man Needs A Maid by Joan Of Arc

Comment from : You know, I'd like to re-up, to help out the bros/sises. However, a few problems persist. 1. (and most importantly) I posted the song without permission. 2. I was a bit drunk when I recorded Tim's voice and guitar. 3. I was more gone when I ADDED ELECTRONICS to the song without his knowledge. 4. And, I was just as drunk when I later posted it to DC while giving a head's up on the JOA forum (yes, it exists), in an attempt to say "lookit me, I'm involved in this.." So, deplorable behaviour to say the least. I told him about it and he seems cool with it all but......all this means is y'all gotta wait and see if he decides to use it (without my "contribution"). Honestly, it really would not shake your world too greatly to hear it (or maybe it would: who knew there'd still be interest?)5. I STILL owe Go Bang Chim a copy of Road Gang, and 1st things 1st. |

gettin up by q-tip

Comment from Rayygun Chimney: Man , when i hear Q-Tip coming out with QUALITY tunes like this, it always brings a lump to my throat. I dunno why,,, i guess as ATCQ played such a important part in life it brings back such fond memories. On a side note...A good friend of mine got this new job for a well known movie/gaming review website, a couple of months into his new role he went over to the US for conference earlier this year ......After all the seminars etc etc during the day, Q-Tip was announced as the surprise guest for the evenings entertainment! On returning back to the UK, he presented me with this raw footage of 'Tip doing all the old hits while randomly pulling guys out the crowd and getting them to rhyme alongside him. filling in the parts for Phife and Al.Needless to say , all but one guy knew every track line line by line... i think even Tip was touched by such successful randomness. |

Jesus Is My Friend by Sonseed

Comment from : It was 1982-83..and we really DID appear on the First Estate Show... >I was one of the original members! Those are the sweetest and best memories of my life! Some other blogs are claiming it's all a hoax...What you see in the video and what you read in the interview with Sal Polichetti, the writer of the song..is ABSOLUTELY true!! The Sonseed logo is genuine, as is the album cover ( I have that around here somewhere).I can't believe all the controversy it has stirred up after 25 yrs. |

Request allowed ?? Carolyne Mas ...

Comment from : Back in the 80's there was a young girl, singer/songwriter CAROLYNE MASShe made a lot of songs and albums, but never became that famous. Only thedevil knows why? In 1980 her EP "Mas Hysteria" mainly became respectedin Germany & some other parts of EU. There's an extremely long, power- andwonderful LIVE-Version of "Sittin' in the dark" (12:51) on it.And.. this wonderful track sounds pure HORROR on an old 1000-times-played Fe-Tape.Anyone out there with an idea ?? Please don't point me to her Sitehttp://www.carolynemas.com/ . This special version is'nt there and searchdoes'nt bring up results. Neither Ep- nor track-title. ...Chimneys ?? (don't dream) :-) |

The Evidence (Dangerous Version) by Evidence

Comment from ThunderBals Chimney: yeah, thats the deal here - even though the Explosion Of A Planet -track is a regular space disco floater, mirrored on the Moon Birds records, if i am not mistaken. Seems like they shifted some of the Moon Birds material and Evidence LP back and forth. While the Moon Birds Lps are sort of ballanced the Evidence has some serious issues making itself clear - anyways: nothing wrong spending 20 bucks on this. I had my fun with it (; |

If I Knew You Were The One by Richard Twice

Comment from : Sorry about the 'Ryan' mix-up... Yes, I am related - he is my wonderful husband! In answer to your question, YES he is still making music. His life has taken a lot of twists, but he has always written music (he has over 100 songs waiting for the light of day). With the re-release of the album last December it has renewed his energy. We are in the process of getting some stuff into the studio now. Actually, he gave Billy Zoom (they have reunited after all these years) a bunch of tapes to see what he will do with them. We have our fingers crossed for the future. You all have written such wonderful things about the album, it has truly been a huge inspiration to him. It is reading words like these that will surely show in everything he writes in the future. Thank you everyone! An extra special thanks to Mother Chimney for listing the two tracks and starting these comments!! I have added the cover art from the album so you could know who is who... my Richard (Atkins) is on the left and Richard Manning is on the right.Rich would love to hear any suggestions you might have - ways to get his stuff out there, ideas for albums?, etc... please feel free to write him at rpatkins@email.comThanks again! |

Up And At It by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet

Comment from Robot Chimney: funny, i just uploaded the wes montgomery version a few weeks back.i actually sold this record a few years back. :(cool lil story how i picked it up. was on family vacation in south africa in johannesburg. i really wanted to go record shopping and the place i wanted to go was downtown. the guy i was staying with told me no one goes downtown unless they want to get mugged. i begged and he said he'd take me there and pick me up in exactly an hour but he wasn't going to park because he'd get his car stolen. i walked in and it was a weird appliance store, but upstairs were rows and rows of deadstock sealed jazz and soul records all for a dollar a piece. i picked up more than i could carry and even bought a few for the locals. |

Comment from Kava Chimney: huh ? why did you edit your post ? no need for aproval from me ...just post the stuff you like dude ! i couldn't care less if stuff i edited is posted on here in original form with titles .... it's no secret. it's not my choice to have edits released that way because it's maybe a bit respectless to the original artist...but i guess edit labels do this for clearance reasons.... never the less a cool track in original form ! i just made it a bit longer .... |

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Sorry, I didn't get the connection. I haven't watched television for over 15 years and have never owned one. Television could be a nice tool and education and entertainment device. Unfortunately it is most commonly used to CONTROL the populace. Hence, my lack of participation. Look at the world around you. How do you think it got that way . . ? |

superstition (todd terje edit) by stevie wonder

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Hey, I would have been there too if I were in NY. He's done some of my favorite edits; case in point, Whistling in Tongues. I didn't comment on the show or Terje's skills, only the track you posted, which would probably have sounded better if I had never heard the original. Like I said before, Stevie's version knocks this one off the dancefloor. Stevie Wonder is undeniably a musical GENIUS; Terje is a great DJ . . .Edit: If you don't understand my comment, I would recommend playing this back to back with the original and see if you don't agree. Also, I would probably have been dancing to this, too (hey, I'm easy) |

Light In The Tunnel / Human Race by Red Rider

Comment from River Chimney: I dunno if any of the Chims are into UFC, but Dan Henderson comes to the ring to "lunatic fringe". We were watching his latest fight and everyone was like, "who is this, Don Henley??" and was like, "no Red Rider". Many looks of confusion and disgust, and my friend Phil was like "Red Rider, that is music for people with no taste". Probably funnier to hear it in his thick Quebec accent. Anyway, just kind of a funny story. |

Eggshell by Autechre

Comment from Fraid Chimney: Quaristice is probably one of my favourite new releases of the year--deffest reverbs, nice track sequencing with chillouts bookending the wigouts, and the vocal (TV show samples?) cutups on a few tunes early on is a nice change of pace. (Chiastic Slide was was my entry point, fwiw...) |

Comment from JAZ Chimney: Super-nice amazing stuff! I love when those girls kick in singing about the "heart of stone"! the dope horror-movie-sounding/dj shadow-ish one that starts around 6:45 is from a library lp called "Desert" and the track is: "Leaving". That's the only one I know off-hand though I def recognize the one at 33:30, which I think is that Tregger track from the comp. Anyone know the opener? |

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Nice tune. I actually like the whole ep. I need to get a copy of the re-ish so I don't mess up my og. I can't believe the thing is fetching 900 bones from collectors these days. I bought mine cheap from a house mate who was strapped for cash in the mid 80s. I've heard they're working on new material . . . |

Another Park, Another Sunday by The Doobie Brothers

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: I won tickets to see Jackson Browne in Baton Rouge in early 1972. So few tickets were sold, they moved the concert to a small 1000 seat theater. The opening act, Batdorf and Rodney cancelled. The replacement band was a group no one had heard of called the Doobie Brothers . . . |

Look Over Your Shoulder by Steve Howe

Comment from : "Some chick named Clair Hamill" . . . ? Puh-lese . . . Claire Hamill was singing professionally before Sarah McLachlan was born, or damn close to it. Besides, SM was ELEVEN when "The Steve Howe Album" was released, although I contend that the track in question was actually recorded at least a few years earlier based on the style of playing by Bill Bruford on the track. Anybody know anything about this? |

RANDY PIE

Comment from : A German friend of mine Burned a copy of Randy Pie "Highway Driver" and I listened to it for the first, SECOND and THIRD Time today, can't shut this stuff off, it is SOOOO great!! I can't thank Georg Enough for turning me on to this! Very 70's, very cool, drivin' tunes, a heavy mix of rock, jazz, Genesis, and Zappa influences, IMHO! If ya can't locate it maybe I can put it up somewhere to hear!Peace, "Zeke" |

O Superman by A.P.O

Comment from JAZ Chimney: I saw her last month here in Charleston during Spoletto, and it was okay, very much up the late-thirties/early-40s advertising executive alley, but still some of the magic and vibe that is definitely all her's and toward the end, she invited her husband (Lou f'ing Reed) up on stage to play some crazy velvety guitar solos on top of three of the songs, and he tore it up in a way that was so cool to see in person after listening to his stuff all these years, so that was really cool! Also her show was angrily polemical in a way that assumed a lot (incorrectly) about her audience, so that was a bit dissappointing. |
07/29/2008

O Superman by A.P.O

Comment from Love Chimney: the 2007 reissue of the track from CD? i mean, its a dollar for the vinyl.hey i remember this music video from kidhoodlaurie anderson also just did a performance at lincoln center last week, but i heard it was lame |

Schizophrenic World by Wolfgang Maus Soundpicture

Comment from Mitch Chimney: Ahh yes, the Maus again (-:Great...If i find the time within the next days, i will post one from the second great Maus Project, Tony Sinclair Orchestra "Summerfeelings" LP.It is from the same year though i believe the Soundpicture LP is stronger, if you look at the whole work, but the Sinclair LP has it's moments too, plus a cheesecake cover... |

All by Hercules & Love Affair

Comment from Swept Chimney: yes yes and yes! best show i've seen at mezzanine since ESG created an insane dance party much like hercules did last night. kim ann's voice was incredible! and yes danny wang did a vogue number for the last song, hercules theme! i think this might have been the best night of the tour hands down.. kim ann also spent many years in sf throwing parties and andy butler's brother lives here so that only added to the perfect performances! |

OSKAR FISCHINGER

Comment from Frank Chimney: also first heard about oskar fischinger in art school taking a web animation class, where the prof played a short clip from a vhs tape. totally blew me away. later i took an animation class and they didn't show any of his films! took me years to finally see more of his work. pretty sure there's tons more to see though... |

Air Mail by Don Cherry & Latif Khan

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Very nice record indeed. Only heard it once and never have seen a copy for sale. On a French label as I remember, from 1978. Don is playing pocket trumpet and dous'n gouni or hunter's harp and Latif on tablas and voice. Scarce as hen's teeth . . . |

High Tide by Batteaux

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: I haven't heard this in 30 years, which is about how long ago I sold my copy. This is NOT a hard to find lp; I see it fairly often. It was reissued, so new copies can be had for $5. These guys used to remind me of Crosby and Nash a bit. Maybe I'll have to go out and pick up the last copy I saw . . . |

je vends du reve (pranamisplacednostalgia edit) by flechettes

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: What did the edit amount to? This sounds like late 60s ? Tempo was a bit quicker then so the dances were necessarily faster moving and not nearly as long lived as disco. There was a new dance style every week it seemed. The twist the pony the jerk the swim the monkey and on and on. Pop goes the weasel . . . |

Love on a Real Train (Risky Business) by Tangerine Dream

Comment from : TD Live at the Royce Hall, UCLA, LA, Nov 7th 2008 Just to re-post this from the official site, apparently just over a 1000 tickets have been sold to members of the college already, 'before' the tickets go on sale later this week. That leaves approx 750 for other TD fans...so hurry or you'll miss out on TD's only US gig in years |

black spot by santa esmeralda

Comment from Basement Chimney: Great track. Could have sworn I posted it, but I guess I never got around to it. Fit in perfectly as the second track in a summery disco/rock mix I made a couple of years ago. It seems this song has been credited as both Black Pot and Black Spot on their albums. |

Tracks like this remind me of films that totally shake you up with all the plot twists and amazing performances. I love the first five albums these guys made and parts of New Faces. My favorite is Clowns and Clouds, their 3rd. I'll post something from that one soon. They love the dog as long it stays out of the Honey Pot |

Love in this Club by Usher

Comment from Mosquito Chimney: every time i hear this song i think about some rich white dudes doing preemptive polling to figure out words people like hearing in songs... "love" and "club" must have been the top two...this song has been a source of endless joy, though, after reading the reviews people were posting on itunes... i need to post this review where the writer is confused why usher wants to fuck a club and calls yung jeezy's rap "not normal", haha |

New York by Francis Lai

Comment from JAZ Chimney: The artwork is great, a gatefold with a hilarious drawing of Francis and some babe with an accentuated rear, looking out over NYC from a balcony, and then you open up the gatefold and it's all just stars and saturn and space. Really nice! |
06/10/2008

New York by Francis Lai

Comment from JAZ Chimney: "New York" is def the stand-out, but there are two other sort of decent but not great tracks. The one that you've heard about, says my hunch, is a little too "aerobics"-ish for my tastes, and then there's a nice very atmospheric cosmic-y ambient piece which I like,...but I probably won't be playing much of the rest of the lp in the future. |

Never No Dollars by Black Devil Disco Club

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Disco Club was released in '78 and was a one man production (the other dude financed it). The record was completely original, though the 6 tracks have similar beats and synth sounds. But they are all unmistakably from the same source. The record was a heavy influence on a lot of tracks that followed from other artists. Try to find a copy NOW. They are incredibly rare and therefore expensive. If I were in Mr Fevre's shoes and was able to replicate that sound thirty years later and profit from it, you'd better believe I'd jump on it. The man ain't no fool and his sound is still his own. I respect that and hope this isn't his last release (as word on the street has it). If you don't like the sound, don't buy it. A dj dropped a track from his 2006 record a couple weeks ago at a party in SF and it got my ass onto the dance floor. Good disco is always welcome . . . |

Hafi Deo by Seigneur Tabu Ley Rochereau avec l'orchestre Afrisa

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Never heard one of his tracks with that constant house thump. I just picked up a Rochereau lp last weekend called Babeti Soukous. This tune is fairly relaxed sounding over all. Do all the tracks on this record have this beat? |

And Through The Wire by Peter Gabriel

Comment from : This is my favorite song off of this album. I also have the Ein Deutsches version of it and it is just as cool in German. It's funny to hear that there aren't any cymbals on this album. Apparently Fripp (who produced this one) was very "anti-cymbals" for the 80's Belew King Crimson (Three of a Perfect Pair, Beat, etc.) much to the shagrin of Bruford. At the time I heard this album, I was really getting into Fripp and bought the "companion" albums which include Fripp's solo album Exposure and the very underrated Daryl Hall Sacred Songs album. I think I need to make a mix of the shared tracks between these albums. |

Message From the Stars by Snob

Comment from ThunderBals Chimney: That is sooo strange. I was with Mitch on the phone until 5 minutes ago. We played some records we discovered and the last track i played and that i still have in my ear was "Message From The Stars". Then we ended conversation, i thought i check dreamchimney after a long time, click on yesterdays tracks - and whop there you are with this track??!! WTF. Really strange that it seems like sometimes we all are on the same level, also in progress wise. You will find it interesting that my "message of the stars" is on the Black Sun 2 LP from 1980. Who produced your gemm? |

Katzenmusik 11 by Michael Rother

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Katzenmusik is a nice chaser for that show. Just gave my friend Rebecca, the woman who was with me at the Cluster show, a copy of this. She's been a Cluster fan for 30 years (and big on Eno as well) but wasn't familiar with Rother or Harmonia. Now she's addicted. Maybe someone (Hey, MC) should nudge Mr Rother towards a US tour. Can't imagine that not being as successful as the Cluster gigs. |

all by Cluster

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: The beats were implied; I was fairly close to the stage and witnessed a row of young females at the stage front boogie'n down, non-stop. Anyone who missed the shows can get a taste of the sound by pulling out a copy of Curiosum which, for my ears, most closely approximates the vibe Cluster were busting. They're playing another show in New York in September and Phili in mid November. I heard the Boulder Creek show was excellent, too. |

all by Cluster

Comment from : hmmmm. I stayed for about five "movements" (90 min set? Yikes...) and was sorta bummed for the lack of beats. If you really want me to pay attention to your quiet jams, offer me a seat at least. Caner cracked that it was like waiting in line at Epcot, trumping my belief that they were gonna bust into '2112'. Still, can't deny the treat it was to stand in the same room as these dudes. I don't hear myself |
05/27/2008

all by Cluster

Comment from Maurice Chimney: Had my concerns about the crowded scene at Aquarius but instead caught the Cluster liftoff at GAMH. True cosmic loveliness. Although while supposedly, in space no one can hear you scream, you sure as hell can hear the everpresent jerkfaces jabbering away in the periphery while Hans Joachim Roedelius is onstage playing a solo piano piece of unbelieveable melancholic grace. I will never understand these people.I certainly hope these gentle men understood the respect that was in fact being paid to them by much of the audience..... |

Heal Yourself by Francisco

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Spiritual hippie rainbow music. This reminds me of a group that used to perform at the Rainbow Gathering and various other Rainbow Family healing gatherings in the late 70s. Folks who called themselves the New Age community, referencing Age of Aquarius, before 'New Age' was a musical genre. The whole thing was heavily fueled by psychotropic self medication. Bliss babies. The music usually had a tribal sounding dance beat with lots of acoustic instruments that could provide a jam miles from the nearest power grid and sing along vibes were a big part of it, too |

Comment from JAZ Chimney: Chasanova, which I think was also retitled "Questionaire" is good. The self-titled one is not. I've never heard the one called "Looking at you" from 1985, which is a little late for my tastes, but I have a 12 of "No. 1" which is a very catchy nice 80s song used in the movie "Real Genius", and it's on that lp. If you get Chasanova and Chazablanca, you'll have what you need pretty much. |

baby come back by player

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: You probably heard it a million times by '78. It was a number one hit in '77. Can't remember the b side of the 7", but my little sister had it and wore it out. White soul. Don't recall any more big hits from this crew |

baby come back by player

Comment from : Hmm. I guess I'm getting really old as this song is very familiar to me. In 1978 I was 10 years old, but it seemed like every K-Tel compilation had this song on it, which was pretty much their biggest hit. I had forgotten about their follow up hit "This Time I'm In It For Love." Wikipedia article on Player |

I love every little thing about you by Syreeta Wright

Comment from bin Chimney: Great! Tis has been a favourite since i was a kid. it appeared on one of those "Motown is Hot, hot, hot" comps my parents used to play a lot. Because of this beauty I even bought a Liza Minelli LP lately, because there's a version on it (and of course it sucks, if you know Syreeta) |

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Those Italians, man. This sounds pretty damned original to my ears, and what a great sound. The keys and strings blend so well it's hard to tell them apart and woodwinds so spot on. Perfect track . . . And hey, don't forget to post that obscure Slovakian jazzrock . . . |

Alarme! and Linear by Kashmir

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: Glad you like it. I was kind of startled to find this in vinyl new arrivals at Amoeba last Friday, for less than 10 bucks. These guys made a second lp in 82 called Histoire Cruelle which apparently was so hard to digest, they decided not to make any more. That one goes for $400+ these days because of limited production. I've heard the quality wasn't so good on that one. I'd still like to hear it . . . |

Degi Degi by Don Cherry

Comment from Zeroy Chimney: This recording gets a bit confusing as there are so many issues. The copy I have is on Horizon (SP 717) released in '76. Discogs says '75 but the only date printed is the notes by Stanley Crouch which were dated September 1976. The lp was just titled 'Don Cherry'. The same songs were released by emi the same year and the lp was titled 'Brown Rice'. The Horizon issue had this cover The record was issued on cd in 1989 by A&M and was called Brown Rice. The cd sleeve had the Watts Towers edited out of the picture. To my knowledge, all issues have the same 4 tracks. |

(Untitled) by GAS

Comment from Hamburger Chimney: yeah, need to find out when this drops. i had not heard about the book. both POP and Konigsforst have been my soundtrack for some late night drawing sessions the past month. germans do it deeper.also:As the co-head of Cologne, Germany's Kompakt label, minimal techno pioneer Wolfgang Voigt has spent this decade mostly focused on other people's music. But in the previous decade, his albums as Gas helped define the sound Kompakt artists are still perfecting.Voigt and Kompakt will revisit the Gas catalog with the reissue of the out-of-print Gas, Zauberberg, Kônigforst, and Pop in a single four-CD/two-LP collection called Nah und Fern. Originally released on Frankfurt label Mille Plateaux, these records come restored and remastered for Kompakt's reissue in May.Also in May, Voigt will publish a book through art and music collective Raster-Noton titled Gas: Loops. The book will present "the visual side of Gas," according to a press release, but its pages' specific contents remain a mystery. Gas: Loops will come with a CD featuring two tracks from the November edition of Raster-Noton's 1999 "20' to 2000" series (where artists were asked to soundtrack the final 20 minutes of the 20th Century), as well as various Gas loops and previously unreleased tracks. |

Elektronix (Roller Dancin) by Bob Esty

Comment from JAZ Chimney: My dad gave me this lp for Christmas last year, but the copy he picked up only had one of the two records. After watching the flick, I noticed the one great track, this one, during but, sure enough, it wasn't on the single disc that's in my stacks somewhere. Eyes now open for the complete duo, but know that lp 1 is pure drivel. The movie's pretty cool too, like the "Breakin'" of Roller-Disco, and it stars Linda Blair of Exorcist fame, though it lacks the magic of Xanadu, which is the freakin' greatest! |
