As far as I can tell, this is only on the Nymphe lp from '79. The last thing he did before that one was Gulliver in '74. Nymphe isn't on Gulliver or the other Selected Sound recordings from earlier. Sounds like there is a synth in this one and a clavinet. The earlier recordings were all organ. I just bought a copy of Gulliver so I'll check instrumentation when it arrives. Nice tune. I'll have to keep a weather eye out for this one . . . |

My friend Tony laughed during breakfast with an understandable worry of Paul coming after him next. (Tony testified as a sort of character witness at the original trial, which lucky me got to see by skipping last hour from school and being the last gawker let into the courtroom. This was a Big Deal back then. Dude stabbed his girlfriend's stepmom like 55X and then went to work and, if I remember right, either confessed and/or bragged about it to other folk.) The real story is I guess he tried to strangle some woman back in March and got arrested again for his efforts. And it wasn't even near Rockford. Tony can probably rest easy. So, sorry for the sensationalism of my mention of "killers" when there in fact was only one. And Josher, does "October" refer to the month or the album? You know either would be suitable. |

Pianist, singer-songwriter Pratt played old and new compositions for a good hour and a half per show.The Stompers front-man and sideman extraordinaire Salvatore 'Sal' Baglio stood at Andy's side, singing and playing his electric guitar and Andy’s acoustic. Sal is always a pleasure to watch and hear. Second guitarist jazz-man Patrick Mottaz added soaringsolos and beautiful slide guitar fills, evoking Pratt’s old 1970's sidekick Mark Doyle - of Meatloaf, Hall & Oates, and many other bands . Hot current in-demand Boston drummer Dean Johnston of Club D’Elf and everything else - laid down a solid beat, and Brad Hallen covered the bass like the old pro he is. Vocalist Heather Fahey acquitted herself very well on Andy’s extensive and rather complex material after only two rehearsals with the band. The sound was good. Andy Pratt was fierce and funny as always! Let’s listen to one of Andy's fans, Mike from Salem, Mass: "When I saw Andy Pratt's name scrolling on the digital marquee in front of the Topsfield Fair entrance, I couldn't believe it! I didn't know he was playing today. I have all his albums! I missed his first show, so when I took my wife and kids home, I told my wife I HAVE to go back and see his second show tonight. Wow this is great to see him perform live!" Mike clutched one of his favorite Andy Pratt Cd's, 'Resolution'. He had brought it from home to be autographed. It was the first song I heard on the radio when I came back to the states in 1973, straight from the Vietnam War. It means a lot to me! It was Fantastic hearing it live!" I saw her last month here in Charleston during Spoletto, and it was okay, very much up the late-thirties/early-40s advertising executive alley, but still some of the magic and vibe that is definitely all her's and toward the end, she invited her husband (Lou f'ing Reed) up on stage to play some crazy velvety guitar solos on top of three of the songs, and he tore it up in a way that was so cool to see in person after listening to his stuff all these years, so that was really cool! Also her show was angrily polemical in a way that assumed a lot (incorrectly) about her audience, so that was a bit dissappointing. |

Disco Club was released in '78 and was a one man production (the other dude financed it). The record was completely original, though the 6 tracks have similar beats and synth sounds. But they are all unmistakably from the same source. The record was a heavy influence on a lot of tracks that followed from other artists. Try to find a copy NOW. They are incredibly rare and therefore expensive. If I were in Mr Fevre's shoes and was able to replicate that sound thirty years later and profit from it, you'd better believe I'd jump on it. The man ain't no fool and his sound is still his own. I respect that and hope this isn't his last release (as word on the street has it). If you don't like the sound, don't buy it. A dj dropped a track from his 2006 record a couple weeks ago at a party in SF and it got my ass onto the dance floor. Good disco is always welcome . . . |

Apparently Fripp (who produced this one) was very "anti-cymbals" for the 80's Belew King Crimson (Three of a Perfect Pair, Beat, etc.) much to the shagrin of Bruford.At the time I heard this album, I was really getting into Fripp and bought the "companion" albums which include Fripp's solo album Exposure and the very underrated Daryl Hall Sacred Songs album. The beats were implied; I was fairly close to the stage and witnessed a row of young females at the stage front boogie'n down, non-stop. Anyone who missed the shows can get a taste of the sound by pulling out a copy of Curiosum which, for my ears, most closely approximates the vibe Cluster were busting. They're playing another show in New York in September and Phili in mid November. I heard the Boulder Creek show was excellent, too. |

Had my concerns about the crowded scene at Aquarius but instead caught the Cluster liftoff at GAMH. True cosmic loveliness. Although while supposedly, in space no one can hear you scream, you sure as hell can hear the everpresent jerkfaces jabbering away in the periphery while Hans Joachim Roedelius is onstage playing a solo piano piece of unbelieveable melancholic grace. I will never understand these people.I certainly hope these gentle men understood the respect that was in fact being paid to them by much of the audience..... |

Folks who called themselves the New Age community, referencing Age of Aquarius, before 'New Age' was a musical genre. The whole thing was heavily fueled by psychotropic self medication. Bliss babies. I've never heard the one called "Looking at you" from 1985, which is a little late for my tastes, but I have a 12 of "No. 1" which is a very catchy nice 80s song used in the movie "Real Genius", and it's on that lp. If you get Chasanova and Chazablanca, you'll have what you need pretty much. |

This recording gets a bit confusing as there are so many issues. The copy I have is on Horizon (SP 717) released in '76. Discogs says '75 but the only date printed is the notes by Stanley Crouch which were dated September 1976. The lp was just titled 'Don Cherry'. The same songs were released by emi the same year and the lp was titled 'Brown Rice'. The Horizon issue had this cover The record was issued on cd in 1989 by A&M and was called Brown Rice. The cd sleeve had the Watts Towers edited out of the picture. To my knowledge, all issues have the same 4 tracks. |

My dad gave me this lp for Christmas last year, but the copy he picked up only had one of the two records. After watching the flick, I noticed the one great track, this one, during but, sure enough, it wasn't on the single disc that's in my stacks somewhere. Eyes now open for the complete duo, but know that lp 1 is pure drivel. The movie's pretty cool too, like the "Breakin'" of Roller-Disco, and it stars Linda Blair of Exorcist fame, though it lacks the magic of Xanadu, which is the freakin' greatest! |

I have four of the 6 tracks from the lp on two 7"s. Haven't heard "Popeden" and "Ad Libitium 80" (which sounds like it might be good, no?). Dancin' Machine and Hypno Dance are amazing and Roll Jacky Roll and Palace Palace are dime-a-dozen disco. |
