Popol Vuh "Selig sind, die da hier weinen; Ja, sie sollen später lachen" from Seligpreisung
File Under: Sauerkraut in my lederhosen

I only just recently learned that the Popol Vuh is the name of a Mayan religious text, while apparently a group of Deutsch hippies grokked this in 1970 and made music in it's name if not also spirit. Ironically, the reverential component of Popol Vuh's music is typically based on Christian motifs, mining decidedly Middle Ages-to-Renaissance themes of secular pastoral beauty and sacred choral music. However, one musn't forget that these are psychedelic Krauts here, and Popol Vuh clearly celebrates beneath the Dark Star. The AMG has a good bio on all this. Can't wait to begin digging through the discography, but this was the first I'd heard.

wow, this is awesome thanks for the link.. bummer on the 22.5 KHz sampling rate.I want to hear this blissful music in its fullest fidelity. This soundtrack and that other one has sweet electric guitars.

Amoeba (SF) has them along with Duul, Faust etc in a "International Rock" section by the Experimental section. I seem to remember however that Berkeley has it all mixed in rock. Nice reissues these days of all the Popol Vuh discs...
