don cherry "brown rice" from brown rice

after searching for a while for really good don cherry, and picking up a few so-so ones, i think i may have the one right here. a tribal and melodic witchdoctor chant, tiny noises making me freak out. love the chiming xylophone style sound laying out the lead melody, layered over the voices, it adds a little kid aspect to a very 70's style miles davis voodoo jam - with the wah wah guitars choogling away. dig into a pot of brown rice for me one time.

Actually, there are no guitars on this lp. The wah sound was Charlie Haden's bass played through a wah pedal. And, yes, it was a stand up bass. |
