Just beginning to digest the enourmous piles of miles contained within this new five disc set. With so many takes and tracks its hard to even decide where to start, but you just have to bite the big cookie. While Bitches Brew can get a little too soupy for my tastes, these sessions find Miles blowing with a pared-down crew consisting of Kieth Jarrett (who lays down a beautiful el-p introduction here left off the version of this track you'll find on 1981's Directions album, FYI nerdlingers), Airto (Moeriea please...), Jack "abandoned" Dejohnette, and Mahivishnu John McGlaughlin. A little more space in the mix lets you get into the individual performances which are (needless to say) amazing. All these cats really know how to lay it down. Solid. Konda
